The NFL should have way more than just two head-coaching vacancies by the end of the year.

There is a chance we could see a third, maybe even a fourth, NFL team go the route of the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts by firing their head coach and going with an interim before the end of the season.

While the NFL remains the most popular league in the United States of America, the coaching department has left a lot to be desired this season. It is as bad as it has been in years. People tune in to watch the NFL to see the best play the best. Sadly, we have a bunch of good coordinators promoted beyond their levels of competency and we are paying dearly for it. Oh, what a shame…

With Matt Rhule and Frank Reich having already been let go, what head coaches could be next?

Dennis Allen could get a second season, but it might only be more of the same

After scoring precisely zero points vs. the San Francisco 49ers last week, the New Orleans Saints have stumbled to 4-8 on the season under first-year head coach Dennis Allen. Although he may favor the defensive side of the ball, he is starting to lose all the credibility he gained reinventing himself as Sean Payton’s long-time defensive coordinator. With Payton gone, this team stinks.

Continuity is not in line with what the Saints thought by promoting Allen from within. As it turns out, Payton was irreplaceable. As far as if the organization will move on from Allen after only one season at the helm, keep in mind how poor the coaching candidate pool is at right now in the NFL. It may serve the Saints to ride this failed experiment out for another year or so before resetting.

Keep in mind that all four teams in the NFC South are currently below .500 through Week 12, too.

Will Lovie Smith even survive the Houston Texans’ tank job to get the No. 1 pick?

We know that he can grow a beard, but how sure are we Lovie Smith wins another game as an NFL head coach? The Houston Texans have lost a league-worst six games in a row to stumble to 1-9-1 on the season. The only other team in the NFL guaranteed to not have a winning season are the 3-9 Chicago Bears, who are riding a five-game losing streak under their first-time head coach.

The big difference here is the Bears have shown signs that things could get better eventually. Frankly, the World Series champion Houston Astros might only be a touchdown worse on a neutral site over whatever the hell Smith and the Texans have devolved into. The Texans may end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but Smith may not be around to coach him.

There are incredibly painful rebuilds, and then there are the Texans digging their nadir even deeper.

Matt LaFleur is the dying Christmas tree going to the curb after New Year’s Day

It is a better time to be a Wisconsin Badgers fan than a Green Bay Packers fan because at least with Luke Fickell coming over from Cincinnati, you have some hope.

Congratulations, Packers! You successfully transplanted the least successful branch of the Mike Shanahan coaching tree into the Frozen Tundra. No wonder you guys are having a hard time winning games under Matt LaFleur…

For a few years, you could convince yourselves that all was good because the tree was still technically alive. Aaron Rodgers poured countless gallons of water at the base of the Christmas tree, hoping roots would sprout from the living room floor. This comes as quite a shock, I know, but sometimes you have to dump a Christmas tree in the driveway like Jimbo Fisher did in Tallahassee.

If Geoff Schwartz’s wife was running the Packers’ front office, he would be out Christmas morning.

Nathaniel Hackett better hope for a Little Giants miracle to still ride with Denver

For those who are unfamiliar with the Rick Moranis and Ed O’Neill cinematic masterpiece Little Giants, you are missing out. In the latest example of life imitating art, Nathaniel Hackett’s Denver Broncos may need to absorb Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs for him to get a second season. One time, Danny O’Shea did beat big brother Kevin in a bike race. Too bad huddling has been a issue…
